Your Guides

James Mahoney retired a few years ago after serving forty years as a wildland firefighter, wilderness ranger, and wilderness planner with the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. He participated in a year-long apprenticeship with the School of Lost Borders back in the early days of the School. This relationship led him to active involvement in the Wilderness Guides Council, where he has helped organized national and international Gatherings, and Renewal Fasts for fellow Rites of Passage guides. He's married thirty years now. And lives in Bisbee, Arizona, and takes care of his mother, her mother, the dogs, the house, and the Bisbee Radio Project.

Munro Sickafoose is an initiated man, a husband, father, whitewater rafting enthusiast, and ceremonial leader. He's been deeply involved with earth–based ceremony and ritual for many years, and he trained as a vision quest guide with Steven Foster and Meredith Little at the School of Lost Borders in 2000. He's led groups and individuals in the wild since 1996.  He trained at the Ojai Foundation as facilitator in the Way of Council, and has spent many hours in circle with people from all walks of life. He was Netkeeper of the Wilderness Guides Council from 2008-2012.  He holds a Masters of Divinity degree, and is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister.

As guides, our primary role is hold a safe container for you during our time together.
This means helping you prepare for your solo time, being there as safety net while you solo, and
giving you the tools to help you integrate your experience afterwards.
